National Park/Sanctuary

Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary

  • Distance: 70 k.m. from Thodupuzha.
  • On the backside of the Idukki Hydroelectric Project.
  • Timing- 9 am to 6 pm
  • Wildlife- Elephants, gaur, boar, deer, kingfisher, myna, jungle fowl, black bulbul, and many more.

Eravikulam National Park

  • Distance: 47 k.m from Thodupuzha, 7 k.m. from Munnar.
  • Timings:7:30 AM - 4:30 PM(Closed February - March).
  • Anamudi the highest peak in south India is in this perk.
  • Also known as Rajamalai Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • It is a UNESCO world heritage site.
  • There is a flower known as the Nellakurinji flower, it blooms every 12 years.
  • Wildlife- Elephant, Indian Bison, Nilgiri Thar, Nilgiri Langur, Leopard, and many more.

Periyar National Park

  • Distance-100 k.m. from Munnar.
  • Timing- 6 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Night Safari( after 8.00 pm)
  • Night safari, Jungle camp is also available here.
  • It is a protected area for elephants and tigers.

Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary

  • 12 k.m from Kothamangalam town
  • Timing- 7am to 5 pm.
  • For bird lovers
  • Bird- Over 500 rare birds like Bee-eater, Jungle fowl, Shrike, Falcone-grey, and many more.

Anamudi Shola National Park

  • Distance- 53 k.m from Munnar.
  • Timing-7.30 am to 4 p.m.
  • For exploring nature and trekking.

Mathikettan Shola National Park

  • 44 k.m from Munnar
  • Timings: November to March.
  • Present in between the Eravikulam National Park and Pampadam National Park.
  • Mathikettan is a Tamil word, it means mind confused. The path of the jungle is also so mind confusing.

Pampadam National Park:

  • Distance- 50 k.m. from Munnar.
  • Timings:- April – September(6:00 AM to 6:00 PM).
  • Main wildlife- Cobras and Pythons.

Hill View Park

  • Half a kilometer from the Arched dam.
  • This beautiful park gives a panoramic view of three dams of the Idukki Hydroelectric Project.

Anchuruli Tunnel

  • A circular 4 km. long tunnel between Erattayar dam & Idukki reservoir attracting daring hikers.
  • This may be risky, Please mind about the flow of water inside the tunnel.
